Over the past few months, I've been pondering how IT affected my life. For someone working as an IT consultant, I am constantly amazed at how fast technology evolved since the early days. When I was in high school, I remember sitting inside my class, 6 of us staring at the green letters on a black computer screen. At that time, I thought this piece of gadget is just a glorified and bigger version of my mom's calculator. I can still remember bringing in my big floppy disk and being very proud and technically astute when I got my 5 and a half floppy disk version as if it was the greatest thing invented.
A couple of years after, I started programming. Thats the time I realized what a great potential the computer has. I was able to create figures using only asterisks. Sometimes, I can even draw logos or pictures using some "special" characters I only know as ALT+220 or some odd combination on the keyboard.
I spent that summer working with MS-DOS and learning some more stuffs regarding the computer. It provided quite an experience with my most cherished one being able to play the game "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego". I still dont know who Carmen Sandiego is but I am still amazed at the the creativity of that game's creator.
This is how I first got involved with the world of computers. It's almost 10 years since that faithful day inside the green screen computer and so many things have changed since then. To me, there are even greater things to come, but the joy of remembering the excitement of the early days will always be with me forever.
.....
I guess this one maxxed out the 60 seconds. Maybe I'll just post some pics or give one or two liners next time.
